The Regression Plane: a brief description

One of the main functionality of Advanced Cell Classifier (ACC) is to classify cells into separable phenotypic classes. However, most of the biological processes are inherently continuous (e.g. cell division, uptake of a chemical compound that initiates a new cell state). By discretizing these continuous stages one significantly restricts the analysis. ACC, with its new module, the Regression Plane (available at ACC version 3 -ACCv3.0- or higher), gives an opportunity to classify cells in a continuous way, without the need of defining discrete stages.

The Regression Plane appears like a 2D blackboard with axis labels ranging from 0 to 1. Each annotated cell will be displayed directly on the Regression Plane. We offer three possibilities to annotate cells in the Regression Plane:

  • Manually defining the (x, y) position.
  • Predicting the cells of one image and then moving the cells of interest in specific (x, y) positions, or simply double clicking on a cell to annotate it in the training set.
  • Using the active regression module.

At the end, after the prediction, every cell classified in the regression class will be automatically annotated in the Regression Plane.
